THE PROBLEM
CHILDHOOD TRAUMA
Emotional abuse, physical abuse, heartbreaks, or family-of-origin dynamics may create “holes” in our heart. They usually transform into limiting beliefs, toxic shame, unhealthy relationship patterns, and compulsive behaviors that affect our lives.
SHAME
Shame is “The belief that we aren’t worthy of love and belonging”. Toxic shame makes us believe that we are innately flawed and defective. Usually we’d create a false self as a protective mechanism, which by default makes us unable to connect with others authentically and reinforce our beliefs that our true self is unlovable.
ADDICTION
Addictions are common among shame-based people, as a mechanism to numb our discomfort feelings and experience temporary mood-altering, but may lead to destructive effect to our lives. Common addictions include porn/sex addiction, love addiction, alcoholic, over-spending, gambling addiction, and overeating etc.
